Prisoner of Midnight by Barbara Hambly

Barbara Hambly's Prisoner of Midnight is the eighth book in the James Asher series.  While the series is billed as James Asher, Lydia Asher often plays an equal or larger part, as does the vampire Don Simon Ysidro.

The series begins with Those Who Hunt the Night, which I admit still remains one of my favorites in the series.

In this latest book, Don Ysidro has been drugged and taken captive and is being shipped to America.  Lydia joins the voyage to find him, and to either free him or kill him, whichever becomes necessary.

Not my favorite in the series, but an interesting twist at the end that makes me eager for the next book.

Read in January; review scheduled for April 17.

NetGalley/Severn House.

Fantasy/Vampires.  May 1, 2019.  Print length: 256 pages.

    1. Barbara Hambly's series about fighting vampires is full of suspense! She has a number of different series, but this is the only one I've read.

  2. I loved Those Who Hunt the Night and also Hambly's second book, Traveling With the Dead, mostly because of the scenes in the Paris catacombs. But I didn't realize she'd written so many other books in this series. Behind once again! ;D

    1. The Paris catacombs are perfect for those creepy vampires! I really liked her stand-alone Renfield, Slave of Dracula which I read for one of Carl's R.I.P. Challenges years ago.

    2. It's a great list of Dracula pastiche books and would be perfect for October and Halloween!

  3. What a creepy cover! I think it is fascinating how Vampire lore and legend have proved so much fertile material for fiction. From Sheridan le Fanu to Anne Rice to Barbara Hambly and beyond!
