I see Cleeve's books on the shelves at work, but have never read any of them. I'll have to see if I can get the first in the Shetland series on audio. Thanks for the great reviews.Leshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08345657431432380804noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22616974.post-78224041239637020902016-02-21T07:28:41.378-06:002016-02-21T07:28:41.378-06:00It is so difficult to keep up with all of the seri...It is so difficult to keep up with all of the series out there. I'm often reminded by seeing a post about the series on a blog or when I catch one on NetGalley. :) jenclairhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06046532245054911248noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22616974.post-49870807377938089052016-02-20T11:52:27.069-06:002016-02-20T11:52:27.069-06:00Great reviews! I have read a couple of her Shetland series and like you, I haven't kept up with it like I wish I had. I didn't realize there was also a BBC production of her Vera series. I'm tempted to check that out. I wonder if it's on netflix :)Ilianahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07026669671843769219noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22616974.post-69210811973720385762016-02-20T07:40:09.276-06:002016-02-20T07:40:09.276-06:00I like that Cleeves has an unorthodox protagonist ...I like that Cleeves has an unorthodox protagonist in Vera. Reminds me of the BBC character Cracker (played by Robbie Coltrane or the Harry Potter character Hagrid, as he is mostly known now) and Reginald Hill's Fat Andy Dalziel. :) jenclairhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06046532245054911248noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22616974.post-81922918342956710822016-02-19T23:42:54.124-06:002016-02-19T23:42:54.124-06:00I haven't read any of these books are authors....I haven't read any of these books are authors. The Cleeves book especially appeals to me. Your description of the characters and setting has me curious. I will add her to my list of authors to read. A Murder of Magpies is on my wish list because of you. I will have to add the second book too. I love that cover. :-) Literary Felinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13079276242303738719noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22616974.post-67319394904755027752016-02-19T14:32:41.951-06:002016-02-19T14:32:41.951-06:00I don't remember the first Vera novel I read--...I don't remember the first Vera novel I read--which is perhaps why it was so long before I read another, but I really did like her in Harbour Street. I didn't get on with the Vera novels, I simply didn't believe in her as a police officer and that put me off her as a writer for a time. I do love the Flanders series however. There is a third one due out in the UK in the next could of months and I am really hoping it will turn up on netgalley.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22616974.post-59131751244703191052016-02-18T18:56:19.803-06:002016-02-18T18:56:19.803-06:00I like the premise of Harbour Street and A Bed of ...I like the premise of Harbour Street and A Bed of Scorpions. And she's going to be at the mystery conference that I am attending next week. So, guess I'll find out more about her and maybe then read one of her books. I did try to watch Vera at one point, but didn't care for it all that much. Kayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13495669354860191042noreply@blogger.com
