Thought I posted this last night...

I've decided to join the From the Stacks Challenge issued by Overdue Books.

Here are my five:

1. Tender at the Bone - Ruth Reichl (in progress)
2. The Thirteenth Tale - Diane Setterfield
3. Five on a Treasure Island - Enid Blyton
4. Parnassus on Wheels - Christopher Morley
5. The Haunted Bookshop - Christopher Morley

At least I hope to read the last two. They have been on order from Amazon since Sept. 24 and have yet to be shipped.

  1. On order since Sept 24?!? That's terrible. Have you talked to anybody at amazon about them? Seems awfully long to wait for an order. I have a book that I ordered months abo, but it was a prepay that isn't going to be released until Nov.

These challenges are great because they help us get books read that have been languishing on our shelves, but they also expose us to all these delicious lists. What's a person to do?

  2. I know. I've received two separate orders since then. On that order, I checked "send them all together" or something and one wasn't immediately available. Which, of course, I didn't know at the time.

Hmmm. We try to clear the shelves by taking part in the challenge, and at the same time, we find more books. Think we should just surrender and admit to an obsessive-compulsive disorder?

  3. You are going to enjoy the Christopher Morley books. I went through them like a hot knife through butter a few years ago and came out wanting more.

  5. I have an old copy of Parnassus on Wheels but haven't come across The Haunted Bookshop yet - they're both on my list of books to read, albeit not for this challenge. I hope they arrive soon!

  6. Glad you're in on this one as well.

I think I'd be raising some cane with the folks over at Amazon!!!

  7. Mary - I'm glad I've still got plenty of books to keep me busy until that order finally arrives. Everyone who has read the Morley books has enjoyed them -which is reassuring since I've had to wait so long!

SciFiChick - It has only been this one order and is my fault for not noticing that one wasn't available and having them all shipped together. I'll be more careful in the future...

Lesley - Originally, I thought I'd read them as part of the R.I.P. challenge; now, I'm hoping they will be part of the "Stacks" challenge!

Carl - Hard to raise cane since it is my fault for not realizing one wasn't available. :(

  8. Jenclair, I've been in a funk myself, and now I'm suspicious about the fact Mercury is making some sort of unprecedented orbit passing in front of the sun. Between that and the amazing election results from yesterday I think the universe must clearly be re-aligning... (!)

    Feel better soon.

  9. Lisa - Mercury, huh? Did we get the message? I'm feeling better anyway, and thanks.
