in the Once Upon a Time Challenge:
Spirit Gate - Kate Elliott
The Book Without Words - Avi
Evil Genius - Catherine Jinks
This is my Garden Girl which I started last fall and finished last month. She seems appropriate for Once Upon a Time and fantasy/fairy tale posts.
Currently reading:
Sharon Shinn's Summers at Castle Auburn is going quickly, and I'm enjoying it. Coriel spends the summers with her half-sister (who is betrothed to the future king) at Castle Auburn, and winters with her grandmother studying to be a wise woman and healer. Lots of castle intrigue and very fast reading.
I'm also reading Mistress of the Art of Death by Ariana Franklin, about a female doctor sent to Cambridge, England to help solve the deaths of 3 children. The deaths have been blamed on the Jews and the year is 1171, during the reign of Henry II and shortly after the Thomas a'Beckett fiasco.
Almost finished with both of these. Then, I think maybe Coraline. Still have quite a few in this stack to get to.
Love your Garden Girl - great colours. Very appropriate for the challenge theme!
ReplyDeleteBoth the books you mention sound interesting to me. Another couple for the wishlist I think!
Coraline is a lovely book - look forward to your thoughts on that one.
Wow, Jenclair, you're Garden Girl is beyond belief! I cannot even phathom the amount of time and creativity it took to put together such a wonderful piece of art. The selection of fabric, the colors, the arrangement - You are indeed gifted. I love the whimsy. Where will you hang it? Surely you will be entering it in a contest of some type?
ReplyDeleteYour Garden Girl is beautiful! Have you thought about sending that in to one of the quilt magazines? I could totally picture her in that magazine Cloth, Paper, Scissors.
ReplyDeleteOn another note, how are you enjoying Mistress of Death? I have that in the queue and am looking forward to it :)
Yes, ditto...you Garden Girl is *gorgeous*!!! You are such a talented quilter--you should see if Quilting Arts or one of those magazines would feature her! I also have the Franklin book in my library queue. Are you enjoying it?
ReplyDeleteThanks to all of you for the nice comments on Garden Girl!
ReplyDeleteQuixotic - I'm going to get to Coraline soon!
Cheya -"Garden Girl" is on the sewing table underneath "Her Mouth Don't Know No Sunday" which is still not finished - Not sure what I will do with her, but I enjoyed making her. :)
iliana - finished Mistress of Death; loved it. Will post a review tonight.
danielle - Hope you and iliana like M of D as much as I did!
I haven't heard of the books you mentioned, but that's no surprise as my fantasy background is weak. Thanks for exposing me to new titles. I've seen Coraline on a few other blogs, so I might have to pick that one up, too.
