  1. Great stack, Jenclair! You make me nervous ;) I hope you enjoy the books I recommended, I thought they were both good reads!

Shadow and Evil in Fairy Tales...that sounds really good! Can't wait to hear about that one. First Meetings is a really cool little book. Lots of back info on Ender and his parents and the original Ender's Game short story is in there as well.

  2. Now that's just scary, Jenclair. I posted a stack of twelve this morning, plus two that I missed, and we don't have a single duplicate.

Do I dare look too closely at your TBR stack? That's what keeps getting me into so much trouble already. :-)

  3. Chris -- I'm looking forward to them! I really need to reread Ender's Game, but maybe the short story will suffice. No, I need to reread the novel!

Sam -- :) I missed one, too: Cod: A Biography of the Fish That Changed the World, which as titles go, is almost as good as The Earth Moved: On the Remarkable Achievements of Earthworms! We'd better get busy , Sam, if we are going to make it through our respective stacks.

  6. Stefanie - I'm eager to read each of them. Some for challenges and some just because. :)

Gentle Reader -- From Renfield to earthworms! I've started The Zookeeper's Wife and am finding it fascinating. Now if I can just finish two more reviews...

  9. Nice stack of books! I love new books even though I have no more room anywhere.
I've been hearing about The Zookeeper's Wife in a few places lately. Very tempting.

  11. Cod was a lot of fun. I also have Salt by the same author, which I haven't read yet.

  12. tanabata -- The Zookeeper's Wife is really moving; I'm really liking it so far.

Dorothy - I'm interested in this from a practical standpoint, too; earthworms are so good for my garden!

Bybee -- I'm glad to hear that you thought it was fun; I'd heard of Salt, but had never heard of Cod before kimy suggested it. The title was a clincher.

  13. I just ordered The Zookeeper's Wife yesterday and then find it here on your list. From the comments above, it looks like it will be a good read.

I also have the first of the Sisters Grimm books. I'll get to that one sometime. Have fun with your list!

  14. Kay -- Ackerman is usually good, especially when writing about animals and nature, so it is not a surprise that given the subject matter of a zoo, a war, and courage, she would would pull us in.

I'll be interested in what you think about the Sisters Grimm.

  17. The Mark Kurlansky book should be good Jenclair. I read his one on "Salt" and gosh, I learned so much! I would also like to read "The Basque History of the World", I don't know much about the cultural or social history of the Basques so this book should be pretty useful. Enjoy "Cod" and let us know what you learned.

  18. Lotus -- I'm putting Salt and The Basque History of the World on my list for nonfiction. I'd heard of Salt, but not Cod; however, several people have mentioned enjoying Cod so I expect to enjoy it as well!
