Challenge Complete

Completed Carl's R.I.P. Challenge with 9 books read. Of course, I still have one in progress, but it will have to be a November book as I'm going to continue with a few more gothic or spooky books.

Here are the books I read for the challenge; some of which were on my original list and some of which were not:

Renfield: Slave of Dracula by Barbara Hambly
Homebody by Orson Scott Card
Rebel Angels by Libba Bray
The Last Apprentice by Joseph Delaney
The Sisters Grimm by Michael Buckley
The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins
Season of the Witch by Natasha Mostert
A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray
Dissolution by C. J. Sansom

My favorites are highlighted. These three were far and away the most enjoyable reads.

Great fun once again, Carl! Thanks!

  1. I'm definitely putting some Wilkie Collins on my list next year! There are so many great horror books out there that I could spend a year reading them and not even touch all of the ones I'd like to. Great list there!

  2. Hmm, I'm pretty sure I have a copy of The Moonstone. I'll have to look. 9 books - that's terrific! I finished a final book, this morning - one day too late to call a part of the challenge, but I'm just happy to have read it. One more to knock off the shelves. :)

  3. Chris - Oh, yes, Wilkie Collins will be on my list again next year (maybe Armadale). Thanks again for recommending Renfield!

Bookfool -- Another good year with this challenge. I like The Woman in White even better than The Moonstone. I'm also going to try Heather Graham's Ghost Walk...after I finish Rebecca Stott's Ghostwalk.

  4. Congratulations on finishing the challenge, Jenclair! That's a nice list of books there. I don't think I've read any of them, but some are on my wish list.

  5. I love both Collins and Sansom. There are two more in the Sansom/Shardlake series and a fourth on the way in the spring and he just gets better. If you enjoyed 'The Moonstone' do read 'The Woman in White' which is definitely spookier.

  6. L.F. -- Such a fun genre! And with so many participating in the challenge there are lots of great titles for next year's list.

Ann -- I plan on reading the next in Sansom's series, but have not yet gotten around to it. The time period is fascinating...some real tricky characters.

Actually, The Woman in White is my favorite by far! When I re-read it last year, I worried that it wouldn't hold up to my memories. Silly me. It was even better!
