Ariana Franklin's new novel The Serpent's Tale will soon be out. I read Mistress of the Art of Death (reviewed here) last year and loved it. I certainly want to read the latest adventure of Adelia and Rowley.
Due out in April: Shadow Gate: Book Two of Crossroads, sequel to Kate Eliot's Spirit Gate. I've been waiting on this one as well. Here is my review of Spirit Gate.
Also to come in July of 2008, David Webber's By Schism Rent Asunder, which is hopefully the next in the series begun by Off Armageddon Reef, reviewed here. I fell in love with David Webber's work with O. A.R., but went on to explore his Honor Harrington series which I loved as well.
Perhaps, if I put in a request at the library, they will consider ordering all three (if they have not already done so); after all, I checked each one of the above out from the library shortly after publication. And the sooner I can get my hands on these, the better!
------ later---
I've begun pulling out books that have been forgotten. You know, those stacks that are out for frequent perusal...mine are usually on the hearth or on top of the book shelf or on the old trunk and frequently in all three places. When company is expected I usually move them to one of the bookshelves. In my case, stacked in front of books that are already there, where I forget about them.
Ooops! ARC's and purchased books galore, neglected, unread. So I will be eliminating a few of them--now that they are back in the open, rubbing shoulders with library books and more recent acquisitions.
I can't wait for Ariana Franklins new book!
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean by the forgotten books--ones that I brought home but without a reading schedule. I won't call them impulse buy but books that I have to get because someone has kept recommending them to me. A couple times I have purchased books that I already own!
ReplyDeleteMarg -- Her first one was a good read, and I wanted another one as soon as I finished!
ReplyDeleteMatt -- :0 -- That must be frustrating! That money spent on two copies of the same book...when you could have had two different books in the stack. I was surprised at how often, I straightened up and forgot about the books I'd put away. That is why I usually leave all TBR out in stacks where they are visible. Out of sight, out of mind! Now, I have to catch up.
jenclair, I'm so glad to hear that Franklin is putting out a new book. I didn't know that she planned on making this a series. I absolutely loved, loved, loved Mistress of the Art of Death. It was one of my top picks for 2007.
ReplyDeleteI'm off to see if the Library will let me order the Franklin NOW!
ReplyDeleteAriana Franklin does have another book out called City of Shadows. I own it, but haven't read it yet.
ReplyDeleteOh, and the books that I have read that were written under the name Diana Norman are excellent too!
ReplyDeleteYou know, as much as I visit the library I've never put in a request for a book purchase. I think I should and see what happens. Our library is pretty good about getting new books though so I shouldn't complain :)
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to Ariana Franklin's book too. I thought Adelia was a really interesting character.
Lisa -- I thought she would by the way it ended, but wasn't sure. I really enjoyed it, too.
ReplyDeleteAnn -- If they have already ordered it, we should get on the list to be notified when it arrives!
Marg - I saw that City of Shadows on Amazon, and it sounded good. I'll look for Diana Norman's titles as well.
iliana -- Our library is pretty good about getting new books, too. Just thought I plant a seed if they haven't ordered them yet. :)
I suppose a lot of us bury our books behind others. That's one reason I decided to limit my purchasing, this year. I looked around and thought, "Good grief. Just how many books does one person need?" So far, it's going very well. I'm actually reading books as I acquire them, throwing in some off the shelves. It's a great feeling knowing I'm actually acquiring fewer than I'm reading, for once.
ReplyDeleteBookfool -- I haven't bought any books this year. So far. I'm reading mostly library books and ARC's that just keep arriving. When I realized all these other books had been re-shuffled to the shelves, I got an even clearer picture about how long I need to go without purchasing any more!
ReplyDeleteA friend is sending me her copy of Mistress of the Art of Death and I am really looking forward to reading it. If I like it (which I'm sure I will), I'll have to look for her new one.
ReplyDeleteI like to reorganize my shelves periodically to remind myself what I have waiting to be read. I'm behind in that task big time. The last time I got started on that little project, I was a bit overwhelmed by just how many TBR books I have on my shelves . . . I am sure I have some hidden treasures there.
I miss the library. Remind me not to move to another foreign country without checking out The Library Situation more thoroughly.
ReplyDeleteL.F. -- I hope you enjoy it. I love historical mysteries.
ReplyDeleteThe book accumulation occurs a lot faster than we realize, doesn't it?
Bybee -- :) Libraries are a such a privilege! A lot of people take them for granted, but I've always known that I could not afford to read the way I do without them. Yet, if moving to a foreign country, just finding books in English must be a problem.
I just ordered Spirit Gate, so I'm so glad to hear that Shadow Gate is coming out soon! I hate having to wait for sequels. I can't wait for that book. I've heard so many wonderful things about it and it's been on my list for a loooong time.
ReplyDeleteSpirit Gate is a book I always look at...I love the cover...and keep meaning to pick up. Maybe knowing the second book is coming out will help jump start me. I'm not a fan of waiting for sequels either.
ReplyDeletein reading your past reviews of spirit gate and OAR I got thinking of Califia’s Daughter by leigh richards which is the sci-fi pen name of laurie r. king - I haven't encountered either name on you book blog and am surprised - it seems you've read everything! but of course that's impossible.
ReplyDeletelaurie's has a few series but she's best known perhaps for her mary russel series which pairs mary with a retired sherlock holmes...they are great! as are her other books. although perhaps I like her contemporary stand alone suspense novels even more - definitely check our her website and see if you're interested laurieking.com
hope your trip is going well!
my list is growing ....ah so many books, so little time!!
Just came back to let you know I tagged you on a meme but I know you've got a lot going on. So only if you are up for it :)
ReplyDeleteJenclair, I'm really looking forward to Ariana Franklin's new one, too. I really enjoyed "Mistress of the Art of Death" and I'd love to see it turn into a nice, long series.
ReplyDeleteChris -- I hope you enjoy Spirit Gate as much as I did! I'm so eager for the next one...
ReplyDeleteCarl -- I hate waiting for sequels, too. On the other hand, when I really enjoy a book, my fingers cross in hopes of a sequel because I don't want the story to end.
kimy -- I didn't know Laurie R. King wrote another name! I'll be looking for titles under that name.
I've read one Kate Martinelli mystery by King. I've also read (and thoroughly enjoyed) several in the Mary Russell series: Locked Rooms, The Game, Justice Hall, A Monstrous Regiment of Women, and The Beekeeper's Apprentice. Have not yet read O Jerusalem, A Letter of Mary, or The Moor. But I'll get around to them eventually. I didn't start keeping this blog until 2006, and I started reading King about 10 or 12 years ago with The Beekeeper's Apprentice.
iliana - I'll check it out! Just got back yesterday afternoon and am babysitting today.
Sam -- I'm hoping for a long series as well. I liked the way Franklin developed the minor characters, too.
I've tagged you with a meme. Go to PfeifferBookNotes.blogspot.com. Hope you enjoy doing it. I did.
