Preston, Douglas. Blasphemy.
6 words: cardboard characters, silly plot, bad dialogue
I enjoy the books by Preston and Lincoln Childs, which even though they are quite unbelievable, are entertaining. Preston's solo effort in Blasphemy wasn't very entertaining, although it does read quickly. Not one believable or even really interesting character in the book and a plot that began with some spark became forced, annoying, pretentious.
Fiction. Science fiction? 2008. 416 pages.
Well, that would be a skipster, then. I don't think I would have picked this book up anyway, but thanks for the warning, Jenclair. :)
ReplyDeletebookfool - Definitely a skipster. :/ Ah, well, there are plenty more where that came from!
ReplyDeleteI hate to say it but I think I would have skipped this one based on the cover alone! ;)
ReplyDeleteOh well let's hope your next book is a winner!
Yes, the cover alone would make me not want to read this! I've read some of Preston's work when he writes with Lincoln Childs--I love the Aloysius Pendergast series, especially Cabinet of Curiosities. Too bad this one isn't nearly as good.
ReplyDeleteToo bad this book didn't pan out. I've enjoyed his joint ventures.
ReplyDeleteI haven't heard too many good things about this one. I really enjoy Preston and Child's books, but I haven't tried any by just one author or the other. Thanks for the review, Jenclair!
ReplyDeleteI was just wondering if preston and childs were up to anything new. thanks for the review of this - I might have picked it up, but will skip it.... even though the pendergast books are very believable they are totally enjoyable. this one sounds like a real loser - bad dialogue and cardboard characters! no thanks!!
ReplyDeleteiliana - Wouldn't take much to be an improvement!
ReplyDeleteKatherine - I love the Aloysius Pendergast series; those books are a stretch of the imagination, but great fun.
Ti - Well, I'll stick to the combined efforts of Preston and Childs from now on. :/
LF - So I'm not the only disappointed reader...
kimy - Give this one a pass. We can wait for the next Agent Pendergast!
