Requiem

How sad to realize that one of our most active book bloggers is no longer with us. There have been tributes all over the web since Dewey's husband posted about the sudden silence on The Hidden Side of the Leaf.

We all operate within our own little spheres--isolated in fact, but connected in spirit to the rest of the blogging community. Book bloggers enjoy a meeting of minds, minds attuned to a particular topic, and we are often unaware of the real-life circumstances beyond our shared interest in books.

Dewey's presence was largely felt and will be largely missed...

"Birth, life, and death -- each took place on the hidden side of a leaf." Toni Morrison

  1. I keep going back to the original post, just to make sure it's not all in my mind. It's so oddly quiet. I could never keep up with even reading all of Dewey's posts.

  2. Yes, this is a terrible loss and yet isn't it wonderful that the blogging world gave us all the opportunity to know such a gracious spirit? Without our blogs we wouldn't have had that opportunity and that would have been the greater loss perhaps.

  6. My heart will always ache now when I see that Toni Morrison quote. I'm not even sure which book of hers it's from. If I ever run across it, I'm sure I'll bust out crying.

  8. Well said, Jenclair. Dewey was one of the first book bloggers I happened to run across and her wonderful blog got me enthusiastic about starting one of my own. I can hardly believe that she is so suddenly gone.
