I've been gardening and reading. My Kindle is never far from my reach, and I rest and read when my back and knees get tired. Spring is such a lovely time of year, and before it gets too hot, I need to get as much done in the garden as I can. Things are beginning to look up in some areas. Other areas are in awful shape, but work continues, and if my back and knees hold out, I'll have a partial shade garden with ferns and hostas.
The worst and hardest area is where the jasmine and a ground cover have taken over. I've dug, hacked, and pulled vines for days and may never finish. One day, while resting, I took a bunch of the vines and wove this little wreath. Fee was not impressed, and I admit it had a Blair Witch Project ambiance. Upstairs, I found this rabbit head I made several years ago (I have a bunch of heads that never got bodies) and stuck it in. :) Now it looks more like Easter than Blair Witch.
I've started working in the yard again and it's amazing how sore my back and knees feel at the end of the day. I think I'm in pretty good shape, but all that stooping and squatting is hard on this old body! We don't have jasmine, but the ivy is a nuisance that we have to constantly pull up so it doesn't take over all the tree trunks. I love your little Buddha with his arms reaching for the sky (in your second photo). I spotted the same statue at a local nursery and should have bought it, as it makes me smile to see his beaming face. Happy Easter and Happy Spring to you!
ReplyDeleteHow quickly the stooping and squatting can tire one out! Yes, I've battled ivy before, too--stubborn buggers those vines. I moved that happy Buddha after a careless hose caught him, knocked him down, and broke one of his hands. Thank goodness for Gorilla Glue. I love his joyful attitude, too. :)
DeleteI love your rabbit! Your garden is looking so lovely. I hope you'll enjoy many mornings and afternoons enjoying your hard work. We have not gone out to work in the garden. Just have been so busy with work that when the weekend comes around I feel like I'm recovering! haha... Hope you have a happy Easter!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Iliana! The garden is coming along, and in another month will be filling out. I was glad to find that little rabbit head in time for Easter. Hope you and your husband and mother have a good Easter!
DeleteYour garden looks so beautiful! I would love to have that kind of variety in my back yard. It is too hot usually in the summer to read where I live (plus mosquitos and other bity insects) but in the spring is just about perfect most days. My only problem is instead of reading, I often just find myself watching the birds and butterflies.
ReplyDeleteHow was the Andy Weir book? As good as/better or worse than The Martian?
Too hot and humid here in summer as well. Feels like a sauna when you step outside in the summer, and we are already making plans to combat mosquitos! I loved Project Hail Mary!
DeleteLove the photos of your gardening! Since I have to take it easy, I'm enjoying my two huge Tombstone rose bushes that almost have the entire fence covered in one large section of my back garden. I have a spot where I can look out and enjoy them while reading, knitting, or blogging.
ReplyDeleteI love Tombstone roses! We call them Lady Banks or Banksia around here, but I prefer Tombstone roses and the Old West flavor. We have one down in the country that delights me, but not enough room here in our small garden. Keep those legs elevated Cathy, and enjoy the scene from your window. :)
DeleteI'm not ready to start gardening yet, but I am enjoying the warmer temps, and all the first flowers coming out. Spring is such a great time of year. I wish it lasted longer, but summer heat always seems to creep in too soon. :D
ReplyDeleteI wish spring lasted longer, too. I dread the summer heat which comes earlier and lasts longer, and enjoying this between time becomes more important. :)
DeleteHappy Easter! I love your wreath! Your garden is looking great. We've just started on our garden and are hoping to have better luck than last year. It was so hot and dry, so it was hard to keep everything alive. Maybe this year will be more successful. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ashley! I've had to make adjustments for the hotter summers and lack of predictable rain for the last few years, and expect more trouble this year from the heat. I may have to erect little tents! :)
DeleteYou have a lovely assortment of plants - looking forward to warmer weather and outdoor plants here. Haven't read any of the books you mentioned but a couple look especially interesting.
ReplyDeleteWe had great spring weather this past week, but things are warming up. The gardening urge around here is in full gear, and people are out and planting in the yard and in pots. Spring fervor--the impatient energy spring inspires. :)
DeleteI love the scenes of your garden. It looks great. We've barely started. I can't get motivated. I'm waiting to see what is absolutely dead! succumbed to the snow apocalypse and frigid temperatures. I love your sweet wreath, impressive weaving of vines.
ReplyDeleteLove your gardening pics and I'm glad Spring has arrived over there. It's been rainy over here, which is unusual considering Monsoon season was over. I've been slacking with my reading lately, but am watching a few K-dramas concurrently so that explains my slow reading progress.
ReplyDeleteHave not heard any of those books so I'll be looking forward to your reviews. :)
It sounds like your garden is coming along nicely. The photos are beautiful. I have been reading some. Wasting a lot of time doing I don't know what. I need to catch up on my review writing but having a hard time motivating myself. I finish with work for the day and want to step away from the computer for the rest of the night. We're starting to get back into some of our old routines, which I have mixed feelings about.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a wonderful April!
