Disappearing Comment Button

For some reason, my last post doesn't have a comment button. I fooled around with everything in the settings section for comments, then discovered that under Post Options of the draft, that "don't allow, hide existing" was checked. Huh?

My father is in the hospital, and I wish I had a laptop. When I got home last night, there was a ton of email, but I was too tired to go through it. Have to get ready to go back to the hospital, and if I had a laptop, I'd be able to catch up with emails and play some games.

On the bright side, however, the 3 books Jill sent me arrived yesterday, and I will have some good reading material to take with me!

  1. I am sorry to hear your father is in the hospital!

As to the disappearing comments, that happens to me sometimes and I don't even touch "post options". I have also had blogger tell me that I have to fill in all fields, and not know what that means, so I copy the post into a new screen. It turned out that it meant I didn't have any of the commenting options checked because I didn't know I had unchecked them. It's interesting.

    Happy reading!

  2. I too am sorry to hear your father is the hospital. My thoughts are with you.

I sometimes wish I had a laptop too. Having the freedom to take it places and move around the house would be very nice.

I had the same problem yesterday when posting to my blog. I'll have to see if it happens again. Maybe the automatic settings changed? I noticed a couple of other changes to blogger as well. Little ones, but enough for me to notice.

  5. Blogger seems to have that problem in its software for some reason, Jenclair. It's happened to me four or five times and I've had to go back to the individual post to edit the settings to "allow" comments. It seems that some posts just randomly assume that you don't want comments.

Sorry to hear about your father being in hospital. I hope that everything goes well for him. Best of luck.

  10. I'm convinced that computers have minds of their own and will do random acts of terror just to annoy us. Don't they do that well? I'm so sorry that your father is not doing so well and I hope he is able to go home soon. He is lucky to have you there to love and help him. My thoughts and prayers will be with both of you.

  11. I'm sorry to hear about your father. I hope he is on the path to recovery.

And I sympathize about the wish for a laptop. It's one of those things I'm saving up for. Hopefully by the end of the year I won't be tethered to my desk.

  15. Sorry your father is unwell. Sending healing thoughts and prayers.

I've had a problem with the post options reverting to "don't allow, hide existing" when I save a draft. I often write a draft, save it, work on it a little, save it, etc., and that seems to stir up the blogger imps. If you check post options right before hitting publish, each time, you can prevent losing the comment link. It's getting to be a habit for me because I have trouble sitting still long enough to finish a post in one sitting. If I were in elementary school, I'd be labeled ADHD.

Hope you get in some good reading time. Hugs to you.

  17. I'm so sorry about your Dad. I was in exactly this position this time last year with my Mom. I got to the point when I walked round the hospital with such familiarity that other visitors would ask me for directions and the cafe servers kept asking me if I'd forgotten my staff ID. It's like living a completely different life, isn't it? I hope all goes well and that he's home soon.

  18. That happened to me too with a post yesterday. Maybe it's the new blogger default?

  19. I echo warm wishes for your father to get well soon.

I had the same problem with my comments. Literary Acquisitionist emailed me and tipped me off.

It's my dream to have a laptop computer.
