Let Me Lie by Clare Mackintosh was a bit of a disappointment. I really liked her first novel and enjoyed the second one as well, but although I was engaged at the beginning of Let Me Lie subsequent events were too contrived and my interest waned.
There is definitely a twist that has been hidden throughout most of the first half of the book, but....perhaps attempting to be too clever the novel's conclusion left me flat.
Read in November; blog review scheduled for 3/10/18.

Hmmm...well, sorry that it didn't work for you. I have had that happen more than once, even with authors that I was pretty sure would be a 'win'. I have this one, but haven't read it yet. We'll see how it goes. I did like her first two books.
ReplyDeleteAs much as I liked the first two books, I was sorry not to have the same pleasure in this one.
DeleteThat's disappointing! Especially when her first two books were so good.
ReplyDeleteI know! There are certain expectations when you've enjoyed the previous books, but Let Me Lie didn't fulfill them for me. :(
DeleteThat's so disappointing. I'm waiting for my copy to arrive and will most likely to read it once I've finished my library books. In many cases the first books are always the best and I've no idea why.
ReplyDeleteI hope you like it better than I did, Melody!
DeleteOh dear, this is one I've been thinking to try but I'd rather avoid books trying to hard when it comes to twists.
ReplyDeleteThere have been a few books in the last several years that would have been better if they had concentrated more on characters and plot and less on the twists. The concept worked beautifully in her first novel, but not at all for me in this one.
DeleteDarn, I was hoping this one was going to be a winner. I do have it but will keep my expectations in check!
ReplyDeleteYou may like it--books are always so personal. ;p
