Happily, I got the second part because The Postscript Murders is Harbinder Kaur #2. But the book isn't Gothic at all, it's a cozy. While I'm not especially fond of the cozy genre, I found The Postscript Murders delightful!
A cast of characters you'll fall in love with, crime writers who acknowledge the contributions of a ninety-year-old "murder consultant" (with cards to prove it), murders, a literary festival in Aberdeen, and the inimitable Sikh DS Harbinder Kaur.
In conclusion, this time I want more Natalka, Benedict, and Edwin.
Read in September. Blog review scheduled for

Cozy Mystery. March 2, 2021. Print length: 368 pages.
I enjoyed this book and am glad to see Harbinder Kaur has a new series. I'm definitely hoping to read more of Natalka, Benedict and Edwin, too. :)
ReplyDeleteSome truly interesting characters in this one! I liked the first book for different reasons, but I like Harbinder's friends in this one. :)
DeleteI'm so glad she wrote another book in this series! Now I just have to figure out how to fit it in with all the other series I'm reading. :)
ReplyDeleteIt is worth fitting it in just to get to know the characters. Quite a team!
DeleteI'm really looking forward to reading this book. Sometimes I think I'd enjoy reading Elly Griffiths' disposed-of shopping lists!
ReplyDelete:) It is a fun ride with quirky characters that make you want to read more of Harbinder and friends.
DeleteThat is good news for you that the author heard your plea. :-) I am glad you enjoyed The Postscript Murders. How interesting that it turned out to be a cozy instead of a gothic mystery. What a difference!
ReplyDeleteCan a character dictate style? Harbinder seems to have taken on a life of her own. :)
DeleteGlad to hear you enjoyed this one. I'll have to look into the series. Hope you have a lovely weekend! :)
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't what I expected after the first book, but it was really good!
DeleteI love when a book leaves you wanting more. I'm glad this one continues on for you. I hope you'll enjoy the rest!
ReplyDelete:) The books that keep you wanting more are so rewarding!
DeleteInteresting! I read The Stranger Diaries and the gothic atmosphere was excellent. So curious for her to keep the detective character but change the setting so dramatically. I wonder if she'll move from sub-genre to sub-genre...like a hard boiled crime novel next and then maybe romantic suspense...
ReplyDeleteI've also wanted to try Griffiths' Ruth Galloway novels one of these days! So many books...
I loved the ambiance of The Stranger Diaries and hope Griffith will try that Gothic style again. At first, I was puzzled about the stylistic changes in this second book, but gradually, I fell in like with the characters and appreciated it. :)
DeleteThese two also sound good. I like cozy mysteries better than you do so that part wouldn't bother me at all. I love characters that become like treasured friends. I'm like Ruthiella above, though, when she acknowledges there are "so many books." I wish I read as quickly as you do.
ReplyDeleteBoth of these are good! Different, but each one was a success for me. :)
Deletethis book had me at ‘90 year old murder consultant’ 😁
ReplyDeleteI know! Such a hook--she should have had a book of her own. Maybe Griffiths will go back and pick up this character and giver a life before this book.
