The Split by Sharon Bolton and other stuff

I'm sorry to say that I found this latest book...a bit meh.  I've been reading and enjoying Sharon Bolton since her first books--remember Sacrifice, Awakening, and Blood Harvest, those horror books that began her career?  Then I enjoyed the Lacey Flint series.  I especially liked her stand-alone Little Black Lies.

The Split, however, was a disappointment.  After checking Goodreads, I realize that I'm one of the few who felt let down by this one.

And so it goes, as Billy Pilgrim frequently stated.  It didn't work for me, but others loved it.

NetGalley/St. Martin's Press
Psychological.  April 28, 2020.  Print length:  400 pages.

Daily schedule:  feed cats, feed birds, garden, read, do laundry, read, wonder what life will be like in a month or a year, read, skim the news, escape into a book.

A Good Thing:  Since I've begun receiving personal mail again lately (which makes me very happy), I've begun to write letters again.  It is comforting to sit and write letters to friends and family, and I love decorating my stationery and envelopes, which occupies some of my time.

I am all for saving the USPS and enjoying one of my favorite hobbies!

Funny, but True:

My wife and I play this fun game during quarantine, it's called "Why Are You Doing It That Way?" and there are no winners

  1. I've liked most of Bolton's books, but I really didn't care for Daisy in Chains. And I still haven't gotten around to reading The Craftsman. (oops!) Mostly I wish she'd write another Lacey Flint novel. If I ever get a copy of this one, I'll let you know how I like it...or don't. :)

  2. Actually, I didn't care for either Daisy in Chains or the Craftsman that much, but I still would like another Lacey Flint!

  4. I'd love another Lacey Flint book too! Good to hear what you thought about this new Bolton book. Some we love and some we don't. I'll be trying it anyway. I love the 'elderly' cartoon thing. I told my daughter that she's not allowed to refer to her Dad and I as 'elderly'. Ha!

    1. Since a lot of people love the new Bolton book, I hope you enjoy it more than I did, Kay. And on "elderly," my granddaughter responded "Boomer" to something I said a couple of months ago. :)

  5. That pic is too funny. Anyway, what a bummer this one wasn't very good. I've really liked so many of her books so I was looking forward to this. Will probably get around to it one of these days.

    1. You may like it--it didn't fit what I wanted, but strange times and all that. Response to a book is always personal, isn't it?

  6. I really miss Bolton's Lacey Flint series! I'm hoping she'll have one out soon in the near future. I've already ordered The Split and am waiting for its arrival. Not sure when I'd read it though, considering I've not read the rest of the library books I'd borrowed earlier!

    1. I need to check and see when the last Lacey Flint installment was. Bolton has been writing a lot of stand-alones. Hope you like The Split when you get around to it, Melody. :)

  7. I enjoyed her Lacey Flint series -- it sucks this one didn't work out for you. She's usually an uathor I'd expect a solid read from.

  9. That's too bad the Bolton book wasn't better. I am glad you are writing letters again. I was thinking I might see if Mouse is interested in writing to her grandmothers and a few of her friends--or at least drawing them pictures if I can't convince her to write. I think it would be fun. Have a good week, Jenclair. Stay safe.
