Nonfiction

I've read fewer books this year, but I have accomplished my goal of reading more nonfiction, especially biographies / memoirs:

The Yellow-Lighted Bookshop by Lewis Buzbee (M)

Anne Boleyn: A New Life of England's Tragic Queen. Joanna Denny (B)

Maximum City: Bombay Lost and Found. Suketu Mehta

Voltaire Almighty. Roger Pearson (B)

Written in Bones: How Human Remains Unlock the Secrets of the Dead. Paul Bahn

The Physics of the Buffyverse. Jennifer Ouellette

Break, Blow, Burn. Camille Paglia

Mockingbird: A Portrait of Harper Lee.
Charles J. Shields (B)

Mistakes Were Made (but not by me.) Carol Tavris and Elliot Aronson

Mirror, Mirror on the Wall. Kate Bernheimer, ed.

Sword & Blossom. Peter Pagnamento and Momoto Williams. (B, letters)

Shadow Cities. Robert Neuwirth

Elizabeth and Her German Garden. Elizabeth von Arnim (semi-autobiographical)

Elizabeth of the German Garden. Leslie De Charms (B)

An Ocean of Air. Gabrielle Walker

  1. Non-fiction has never really been my genre. But this past year, I've read a couple (I actually just finished one) and have been pretty impressed.

    Nice list of books!

  2. Wow, that's great! I've read a few non-fiction titles this year which is rare for me, and I have noticed that so far I've read fewer mysteries than usual. Must be because I've ventured into other genres - YA, sci-fi/fantasy, etc. I kind of miss my mystery-fests but it is fun to discover new genres.

  3. Have you read The Other Boleyn Girl? It's an interesting spin on the Boleyn family.

  4. Wow, you've done great with the nonfiction! I never read much of it, but usually by this time of year I have read more than I've gotten around to this year. And its not for lack of books I want to read on my pile, that's for sure! :)

  5. Stephanie -- I've enjoyed reading more nonfiction this year; they have all been good!

iliana -- I'll never abandon those mystery fests and nonfiction will always take back seat to the fiction, but it does provide a nice balance.

Mercy's Maid -- No, I have had it on the TBR list for a long time, though. :p

Carl -- The piles just keep bigger and bigger don't they!
