Hodgepodge

I have two new reviews to write, but darn, it is difficult to find the time. Not that I don't find the time for other things. Right now, I'm staying busy with several things, including making some baby stuff for little Bryce who is due in December-- embellishing little onesies, making burp cloths, baby quilt in progress, hand quilting a WIP, playing with embroidery. Crafting and sewing and cleaning and cooking and laundry and ....

On a personal level, I'm trying to monitor my tendency to complain/whine/criticize. Which I wrote about here after finding the challenge. Complaining is an almost unnoticed habit, but the challenge makes me more aware.

I also want to share this:Found the above via Annica, who found it on Judy's blog, who found it on Keri's. An excerpt from the article "Writers & the War Against Nature, " published in the November Shambala Sun. Nice, huh?

  1. Very nice. I was at B&N the other day and looked for Shambala Sun to read the article but they didn't have the latest issue. Will look for it though.

  2. Thanks for posting it. It is so true - especially the part about political leaders who have spent time working in schools, factories or farms -- and who still write poems. What we need are people who are still open to the world, whose minds are still curious and in touch with the world.

Well, let us all first start with ourselves. :)

  3. iliana -- The magazine in new to me, but I'm going to subscribe!

Orpheus -- I agree completely. And, yes, I guess we always need to start with ourselves. :)

  5. Oh Jenclair, this (the complaint-free challenge) is exactly what I needed to read today! I have been in such a whiny, complaint-filled mode lately that I am beginning to scare myself...I really do need to take up this challenge. If I manage to break this habit my kids will love you forever, they hate it so much when I nag and complain!

I noticed you took up the challenge on Nov 01st...just another 16 days and you will be complaint-free! :)

  6. Eva -- The quote is so simple and so accurate.

Especially when reviews get delayed, they become such a burden!

Lotus -- I had to start over yesterday! I'm on Day One...again.
At least I'm aware of it and that is my goal: to continue to monitor for complaints, whines, criticism!

  7. I need to join up with the complain-free challenge. I found one thing that helped me a lot was keeping a gratitude jounal, but I haven't done that for awhile. Time to get it going again.

  8. Booklogged -- That's interesting because I've found that monitoring my complaints involves realizing much of what I'm grateful for! They play into each other beautifully.
