The Clockwork Scarab by Colleen Gleason

The Clockwork Scarab

I read the second in the series first, The Spiritglass Charade, and really enjoyed it, so I decided to backtrack and get the first in the series.

Irene Adler summons Mina Holmes (daughter of Mycroft, niece of Sherlock) and Evaline Stoker (sister of Bram) to the British Museum to enlist them in some detective work. Princess Alexandra is concerned about young society girls who have gone missing, and Miss Adler believes that Mina and Evaline may be able to investigate without being suspected.

Again, light, fun, and entirely appropriate for young readers, but engaging enough to entertain me, as well.

YA/Mystery/Steampunk.  2013.  Print length:  361 pages.

  1. I would like to read this series. It's been ages since I last read something by Colleen Gleason. I am glad you enjoyed this one! I think it's an interesting combination, Stoker and Holmes relations partnering up.

    1. Definitely YA, but Evaline Stoker is much concerned about the tradition of her Gardella ancestors! It was fun to see the Stoker/Holmes connection, and Irene Adler also makes appearances.

    1. I'm a fan of pastiches of both Sherlock Holmes and Stoker's Dracula! Gleason had a great idea pairing two teenage girls with the Holmes and Stoker connection. :)
