Emily's Letter to the World

I'm looking forward to A Quiet Passion!

One of my favorite Emily poems:
Part One: Life

XLIV

THE SHOW is not the show,
But they that go.
Menagerie to me
My neighbor be.
Fair play—        5
Both went to see.

An interesting New Yorker article about the film.

  1. I really like that poem too. :-) My favorite of hers is "I'm Nobody! Who Are You?".

    1. There are so many that stick in your head, aren't there? I had my girls memorize "I never saw a moor," but they liked "I'm nobody" better!

  2. I love Emily Dickinson's poetry and am looking forward to the film too. I need to pull out my collection and read some of her poems this month in honor of Poetry Month too!

    1. Such a fascinating character! William Luce's one-woman play The Belle of Amherst is wonderful! Both Julie Harris and Joely Richardson have performed it on Broadway, but just reading it is a great experience.
