Aftermath

Thanks for all the encouragement!   It is much appreciated.  Clean up is on-going.  Yesterday, I kind of ran out of steam and read most of the day.  Ahh, the escape offered by a good book!  Several reviews to get caught up on, but much more clean-up to do first.

Tree through the bedroom window.

The following pictures were taken Friday morning.  The water had begun to go down, but we were still cut off except for trucks and vehicles with a high wheel base.  Although the tornado tried to lift our roof...3 brick walls leaning one way or another and gaps between roof and wall, you can see that a few houses down, they lost their roof completely.

The entire street has been working on clearing and cleaning since Thursday afternoon, but now, things are slowing down.  The adrenaline rush is over; a lot of waiting yet to come.

Again, thanks so much for the good thoughts!

  2. What a mess! I am sure that it is community building to go through this with your neighbours though. I can't imagine having to deal with this kind of stuff (I think I probably said the same thing in my last comment but seriously, can not imagine!)

  3. SuziQ - Thanks! Things are beginning to improve a bit!

Marg - :) I'm having trouble imagining it, too! Inside the house, I forget; walking outside, I'm still surprised.

  4. Oh my gosh! I am so glad you are ok. What a mess though. And how incredibly stressful the whole thing must be. I hope things are able to get back to normal soon!

  6. Stefanie - The stress arises when the adrenaline goes down, and all you can do is wait. Nevertheless, we are all grateful that no one was hurt.

Kailana - It is a mess, but the street crews are working their way slowly toward our house to pick up debris.

  7. Oh my goodness! I'm so sorry you guys were in the path of the tornado! How scary. I'm just glad to see you guys are safe. It is just awful to see the damage caused by these isn't it? Sending you lots of good thoughts and hope the clean up and repairs go as smoothly as possible!

  9. Wow, what a mess to clean up! But I am glad you are safe and that not more damage was done. It never seems like it in the midst of it, but remember it could always be worse. My thoughts are with you. Hugs!

    Robin - Thanks, Robin!

Rebecca - Oh, we knew from the beginning that it could have been worse and that we were lucky: no one was killed. The mess can be cleaned up, roofs can be replace!

  11. OMG!!! I've been reading through your archives and see that you were in a tornado!! I can't imagine how terrifying that would be. Well, maybe I can. We've experienced straight-line winds, and tornadoes in the surrounding areas, but never a tornado in our neighborhood. I hope by now all has settled down and you've gotten your house somewhat back to normal. Goodness...

  12. I'm so sorry about the damage but am so glad that you are well. I imagine it was all pretty scary at the time and is all pretty annoying now, having to deal with the aftermath. But I'm so glad you are okay.

Carl - Thanks, Carl! Waiting on our contractor's convenience at the moment, but otherwise, all is well.
