Drown Her Sorrows by Melinda Leigh and The Russian Cage by Charlaine Harris

 Two quick reads.

Drown Her Sorrows is the third book in Melinda Leigh's Bree Taggert series.  I read the first book, missed the second, and recently received this one from NetGalley.  I've liked some of the Morgan Dane series, but found the Scarlett Falls series too repetitive.

Likable characters and a twist that you may or may not see coming.  The Bree Taggert books are bit of a mix of cozy, romance, and thriller.

I plan to try the Midnight series, too.

Read in Feb.; review scheduled for March 3.

Mystery/Crime.  March 16, 2021.

The Russian Cage by Charlaine Harris is the third book in the Gunnie Rose series, and I haven't read the first two books, so there were adjustments to be made about missing background.

Nevertheless, this was an action-packed...?--I'm not really sure what to call this genre, but it was full of action and magic.  :)

My favorite series by Harris is the Harper Connelly series.  But for heaven's sake, Harris must never get up from her writing desk; she is prolific!

Read in Feb.; review scheduled for March 3.

  1. I loved the Sookie Stackhouse books but haven't gotten around to reading anything else by Harris. I've been super curious about the Gunnie Rose series though. It sounds really good. :)

    1. I tried the Sookie Stackhouse series, but as popular as it was, it didn't gel with me--despite having so many familiar place names around NE Louisiana! I don't know that I'll pursue the Gunnie Rose series, but we'll see. :)

    1. Better, I'm sure, if you start with the first book. :)

  3. I've read two books from Leigh's Midnight trilogy and enjoyed both of them; I'd like to try her Bree Taggert mysteries. And Harris's Gunnie Rose series is high on my TBR list. :)

  4. It amazes me how many books some authors can write for long periods of time. I understand that's not always a sign of good things being written, but I still have to admire the way they stick with it...and convince someone to publish all those books.

    1. Harris has six series, I think. I haven't tried them all and wasn't taken with some of them enough to keep reading, but I do like the Harper Connolly series.

    1. There were parts that I enjoyed, but after what should have been the conclusion, it dragged on for a while. Maybe I should begin with the first book before moving on.

  6. I really enjoyed The Russian Cage. I never did read her Harper Connelly series and I meant to get to her Midnight, Texas series which I kept hearing about, but no such luck yet. I do enjoy the Gunnie Rose books though. They are fun.

    1. I enjoyed all of the action in The Cage, but probably would have liked it better if I'd read the first two books. Some books work well without having read previous entries, others need the character backgrounds to be fully appreciated.

  7. I admire those writers who can churn out books. One I always think of is Joyce Carol Oates. She has so many books! I've been meaning to check out Melinda Leigh - her books always sound like they would be fast-paced, entertaining reads.
