Completed Challenge

Books completed for Carl's Once Upon a Time Challenge:

*Mirror, Mirror on the Wall
*On Basilisk Station
*The Honor of the Queen
*Off Armageddon Reef
*The Book of Lost Things
The Silent Tower
The Book Without Words
Evil Genius
The Amulet of Samarkand
*Spirit Gate
Summers at Castle Auburn
*The Road

Indicate my favorites. There are some fantasy, some science fiction, some YA, and one nonfiction (Mirror, Mirror). Only one from my original list got sacked for lack of interest, and I added quite a few others. I still have a list of books that would meet the Challenge requirements that I want to read; I'll get around to them eventually.

This Challenge was a lot of fun as I enjoy all of the genres Carl allowed, but broadened my horizons and read some new authors. Thanks Carl for a great experience!

  1. Yay! Congrats Jenclair...what a great list! I just picked up Inkheart a couple of days ago after reading so many great reviews of it. Looking forward to it. Picked up The Book of Lost Things as well. This really was a great challenge. Hats off to Carl.

  2. wow that's a list!

glad to see that mark next to Inkheart!!! I am soooooooo looking forward to the third book!

  3. Wow, call me impressed. I'll be lucky if I finish two of my challenge books!

  4. I am seriously considering Inkheart, Book of Lost Things, Mimus and Mirror, Mirror -- all on the basis of your comments.

My local book group has just decided to read Neil Gaiman's Stardust which I think everyone else in the world but me has read and enjoyed.

  5. I'm so glad you finished. And wow, you read alot of books!!! Opening up new reading experiences is one of the things I love about challenges and I am glad you were able to have that experience.

  6. Congratulations Jenclair! That's 15 books. Way to go.

I'd be interested to know why Coraline didn't get a mark from you.

  7. Chris - I think you will enjoy Inkheart, as a lover of fantasy and a lover of books! I really enjoyed The Book of Lost Things, too.

DesLily - :) I've got to get the 2nd book; you are ahead of me! It was a fun read.

Stefanie - I love fantasy, fairy tales, and science fiction...this was like eating bon-bons for me - pure self-indulgence.

Jill - I can also recommend In the Night Garden, Weight by Jeannette Winterson by Catherynne Valente and The Shape-Changer's Wife by Sharon Shinn -- all of which I read before the Challenge started because I couldn't wait.

Carl - This was as much fun as your R.I.P. Challenge!

Petunia - I'm not sure why Coraline didn't appeal to me and was a little embarrassed since so many people have loved it.

  8. Congrats! Wow, you even read more than what the challenge called for. That's great.

  9. Way to go, Jenclair. That's a lot of books in the fantasy genre. Where will your reading take you next? I always love reading about the books you've read. Several of those on your list have jump onto my TBR list.

  10. Ah, you put me to shame. But it's great to complete the challenge though, isn't it? :)

Congratulations on all the readings done. Most important is that you enjoyed it.

  11. Yeah for you!! That's a lot of books! I'm so getting The Book of Lost Things and Off Armageddon Reef. (I'm also planning on swiping Inkheart from the son!)

    Congrats to you!

  12. Congratulations on completing the challenge!

  13. Way to go! I'm still hoping to finish two more books so I can call the challenge a success. I better get a move on.

  14. Congratulations on finishing! Looks like you had some great reads on that list.

  15. Goodness, that's a heck of a fine list. Congrats on finishing!

  16. Great list. I've only read two of these but some of those other titles sound very intriguing.

  17. Congratulations on finishing!

You really made me want to read some of those books, especially "Mirror Mirror on the Wall".

  18. Impressive list! My son and I should be reading Inkheart over the summer, will let you know what we think!

  19. Congratulations, Jenclair, that's a lot of reading! I don't usually read too much from the Fantasy genre, but anytime I need recommendations, I am going to head for your list!
