Before moving from London to Berminster, Siv lost her husband in an accident. He left and never came home, and Siv continues to grieve.
Siv's new case involves a mother who left the house intending to be back quickly, but who never came home. Now, six years later, Lyn Dimas' body has been found, and a case that was written off as a possible suicide becomes a murder investigation.
Depending on her small team of Ali and Patrick, Siv attempts to untangle all the lies and misdirection that led to Lyn's murder. And there are plenty of lies and secrets to be uncovered.
Since it will be another year or so before the next Siv Drummond installment, I may have to go back and check on more of the Tyrone Swift series which I also liked.

Tomorrow is World Postcard Day, and I've got some postcards almost ready to send. Mine are Halloween themed, but they are postcards, so I'm counting them.
The spider lilies are up and making me happy, the cosmos and lantana are still blooming like mad, the milkweed has little left after the Monarch caterpillar feasts. The second bloom of the daylilies is over, but everything else is going strong.
Sounds like an interesting series to get in early on.
ReplyDeleteDo you know if "Siv" is short for "Siobhan"? That's a character name in the John Rebus series by Ian Rankin, and I've been trying to figure out how to correctly pronounce it forever. Seems like I recall him shortening it to "Siv" or "Shiv" in some of the conversations between Rebus and her.
I don't know if it's short for Siobhan, but I know how to pronounce Siobhan, if that helps... shuh-VAWN, with the second syllable rhyming with "yawn." I love Gaelic names-- once I've learned how to pronounce them!

ReplyDeleteI find that I can always start a new series. Having to wait a year or so for new installments means I'm frequently searching for something to read while waiting for new books in favorite series. The perils of reading too much!

ReplyDeleteGetting glimpses into the personal lives of secondary characters sets up so many possibilities. It is kind of like waiting for them to get their chances to shine later. I like having secondary characters develop along with the mc.

That quote is priceless! My husband constantly tells me that he already told me something, when I think maybe he just thought it in his head and not didn't say it out loud. The cosmos are so lovely. We had some viburnum, but after all the smoke in our air, a lot of our flowers stopped blooming. I think they got stressed from the hot winds and smoke. At least it's the end of the season for them.
ReplyDeleteoh no another series to check out! For some reason we've never been able to keep lantanas, which are supposedly so easy to care for. We have a new garden project coming up so let's see how that goes. Love your flowers!
