More Books

Some ARC's from Anna at FSB. I can't wait to get into the Red Land, Black Land: Daily Life in Egypt by Barbara Mertz (who has a Ph. D. in Egyptology) and also writes fiction as Elizabeth Peters and Barbara Michaels. The Philosopher's Apprentice by James Morrow
and Death Walked In by Carolyn Hart also sound good.

More ARC's from Christine at William Morrow/ Harper Collins. I'm particularly interested in Dark Summit: The True Story of Everest's Most Controversial Season and The Stone Gods by Jeanette Winterson. Library books - several are already finished, reviewed, and returned.

I've received a few more ARC's and checked out more library books since I took these pictures a week or so ago. I'm overwhelmed with choices.

I have 3 more books to review - Twilight, An Ice Cold Grave, and The Ghost Brigade.

  2. I am FILLED with envy. I have a secret passion for Elizabeth Peters (it must have something to do with coming from an Egyptophile family), and a totally unsecret devotion to Jeanette Winterson (I just this very moment finished a blog review of her novella "Weight"). I can't wait to hear what you think of these new works!

  3. Wow, you really do have some nice ones to choose from. I've read several of the Carolyn Hart Death on Demand books and enjoyed them. I didn't know that Elizabeth Peters had a PhD in Egyptology. That's pretty impressive! Have a great weekend. It looks like you'll have plenty to keep you busy! Just as an FYI, I'll be moving my blog in the next week or so, so please check in to update your link. :)

  4. bunny - I know! It becomes a bit stressful.

Pour of Tor - I read and reviewed Weight last year. I loved it, and can't begin to explain all of the reasons why. I'll be over to check your review soon!

Lisa - I do have plenty of books to keep me busy, but I WILL be checking on your blog move.

  5. I love those Amelia Peabody mysteries. I had no idea she was writing a novel under her own name. I'm curious, too, what you think of the Winterson and the Morrow. You have lots of goodies to choose from!

  6. I have some of Elizabeth Peter's Egyptian mysteries here to read. I must find time for them. I find Egypt fascinating (who doesn't?) so I'll have to look for Red Land Black Land as well.

The Shadow Year! Just yesterday I read a review of it at Endicott Redux that made me want to order it right away. I look forward to your thoughts on it.

  8. Danielle - The Amelia Peabody series is a bit like eating candy--just one more bite. I'm looking forward to reading Mertz in nonfiction. So many books...

Nymeth - I love reading about Egypt in both fiction and nonfiction; most people do find it fascinating as you mention. Hard to resist the pyramids, the tombs, the mummies, the treasure!

Oh, I'll have to check out the Endicott review - thanks!

iliana - This is how I get so behind in reviews! Those pictures aren't all of my choices either, I have a new batch of library books!
