R.I.P

When Carl, began the first R.I.P. Challenge in 2006, I was all in.  I think the last time I formally joined was in 2016 or 2017, but I continued to read spooky books during the fall.   If you are looking for some suggestions, here are some that I looked back and found.

Renfield: Slave of Dracula (R.I.P. #9)

A list of some of the books that I'd read for the challenge  posted in 2011

End of Watch by Stephen King

Almost anything by John Connolly or Sharon Bolton

I wish I'd kept better track of R.I.P. books, because it is such a fun challenge.  At first, I concentrated on classics, then I moved on to some more contemporary books that fit the parameters of the challenge.  I also read some middle school or YA that were good, too.

Now, I just look for what others are reading and add some to my list.

My favorite holiday is Halloween and spooky/supernatural books fit the season.  I'm not quite ready to get the Halloween decorations out, but I'm certainly thinking about it.  I just ignore the Heat Advisories and think pumpkins.

Anyway, I'm checking your R.I.P. book lists and stealing your suggestions. :)

  1. Cute Halloween decorations and a beautiful cat to boot! I just finished my first book for RIP - The Long Call; Ann Cleeves (no review yet).

    1. Thanks, Diane! I enjoyed The Long Call, but I like almost anything Cleeves writes. I hope you liked it.

  2. I love good Gothic and spooky books in the fall, but keeping up with challenges is too much for me anymore. I just check, like always, to see what other readers like and get some great recommendations that way. :)

    1. I found that pic from last year, but I admit I'm itching to begin this year. Waiting for October is hard! Shirley Jackson is always a good choice for Halloween. :)

  4. Although I'm not joining in the challenge, I'm always on a look out for more book recommendations and not to mention reading the reviews. Hope to see your Halloween decorations. :)

    1. It's fun seeing the choices people make for the R.I.P. challenge. Not that the weather here feels anything like fall, but it is nice to imagine cooler weather and autumn days. :)

  5. I'm not familiar with this challenge, but then I don't do challenges. I find just trying to keep up with my TBR list more than enough of a challenge for me. Love the Halloween decorations - especially the cat!

    1. :) We have to cats--Edgrr, a tabby, and Stinker, the little tuxedo. They are siblings and couldn't be more different in size and personality. I haven't joined a challenge in years, but I often read what others are using for the many challenges out there!

    1. R.I.P. is a great opportunity to read Gothic and supernatural books. I used a pic of last year's decorations, but I'm ready for October to give the go ahead on decorating for this year. :)

  7. I am not formally participating in RIP, but I imagine I will read a few books that qualify, especially if my witch mood hangs on for awhile.

  8. I plan to read mysteries and thrillers for the RIP challenge and will get my post up later next week. I love putting together lists and this challenge is a good way for me to focus on the books on my shelves. It's amazing RIP has been going strong for 16 years!

    1. R.I.P. is a fun challenge if you enjoy having a little scary mixed in with your reading. It certainly works with the Halloween season. :)

    3. Since I haven't joined the challenge years, I'm not sure if they still include films and television shows, but they used to. That would be right up your alley!

  10. I love Halloween too! I think you recommended one my blog post that I read The Crying Child by Barbara Michaels and I did start off with it. It's so good! I need to do a list of some of my favorite R.I.P. reads throughout the years. I need to check out yours so I can get more book recommendations.

    1. If I read The Crying Child, I've forgotten it, but I have read Barbara Mertz's nonfiction and both of her fictional pseudonyms--Elizabeth Peters and Barbara Michaels. What a busy woman she was--an Egyptologist who had over 20 books in the Amelia Peabody series, wrote at least 3 different series, and wrote a bunch of standalones. My library only had one of her Jacqueline Kirby books, but I enjoyed that one, too. She was prolific, and for years, I gobbled up each new Amelia Peabody book.
