Freaks and Gargoyles

My head still feels as if it is stuffed with cotten. My fingers aren't operating as efficiently on the keys, but it is a beautiful morning, and there is no headache!

Lisa over at Bluestalking Reader has a great link to a tour of Flannery O'Connor's home. O'Connor is a true Southern Gargoyle. My favorite O'Connor quote:

"When I'm asked why Southern writers particularly have a penchant for writing about freaks, I say it's because we are still able to recognize one."

Gargoyles and Grotesques of the World is the site of Walter S. Arnold, stonecarver. Here is some of his recent work.
A work in progress.

I ordered The Violent Bear It Away yesterday after reading that O'Connor article.

Hope you get to feeling better soon. If you have the same cold I had, it's an awfully slow moving one.

I haven't read The Violent Bear It Away; I've read Wise Blood and a number of her short stories. There really is no other writer like O'Connor; her characters are unforgettable. Lisa's post has aroused my interest again.

So glad you're feeling better today, Jenclair. When those sinuses get clogged up it's no fun - I know!

I love gargoyles and that's a really neat picture, thanks for sharing. Will follow the link to more.

Maggie! Shut your mouth, girl! O'Relatives, indeed!

Lotus - Much better, thanks. Gargoyles are so much fun, and this one seemed so perfect. Arnold is very talented.

Jenclair, the stone carver is in Chicago! I wrote and asked if he'd like to come to my library and present a talk on gargoyles and on his art. Crossing fingers. If he has those photos on slides it would make a great program.

Lisa - This so cool! I hope it pans out and that you get a bunch of pictures with that trusty camera of yours! Gargoyles are fascinating, but equally fascinating is the ability to create them from a block of stone!
